Global Enterprise Technology (GET) is an interdisciplinary program focused on preparing students from a variety of backgrounds for successful careers in global organizations that have large scale information technology systems. GET prepares students to manage and develop the technological infrastructures of today’s global markets. Syracuse University students who participate in the GET program come from the School of Information Studies, Newhouse, Whitman, L.C. Smith, the Maxwell School as well as other schools at SU.
This unique program was developed through a collaboration between Syracuse University and JP Morgan Chase & Co. that first began in 2007. Then in 2009, The HUB was launched to expand the collaboration between Syracuse University and JPMorgan Chase to include other universities and industries. In addition, some SU students have had the unique opportunity to intern at the JPMorgan Chase Technology Center at SU, an on-campus facility where students and faculty work side-by-side with bank employees conducting research and running global technology operations.
There are two sub-programs that fall under the GET umbrella, which provide students with the opportunity to integrate classroom learning with relevant and valuable experience in the workplace. These two programs are the GET undergraduate minor and the GET Immersion Experience. Students may participate in one, or both programs.
The GET undergraduate minor was designed to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge around the IT challenges faced in the global environment and the complex set of skills needed to address these issues. The coursework for this minor is inter-disciplinary and draws upon the areas of information studies, management, computer science and engineering. The curriculum places an emphasis on engaging students through real-world case studies, team projects and guest lecturers from a variety of industries.
The GET Immersion Experience is an integrated spring and summer learning experience combining coursework and a paid internship over an extended period. Through experiential learning, students will gain knowledge in areas such as strategy, IT-enabled innovation, organizational dynamics and effective communication. During the GET Immersion Experience, students simultaneously take courses and work for a global organization, immediately putting the concepts they learn into action in the professional work environment.
